Domestic concerns were again the focus of attention within the Kremlin-aligned media in Lithuania.

Main narratives:

  • doubts about the transparency of democratic elections;
  • the incompetence of the current government;
  • general anti-government sentiments;

Overview:

Domestic concerns were again the focus of attention within the Kremlin-aligned media in Lithuania. During the analysed week, the second round of Presidential elections occurred, where the incumbent President, Gitanas Nausėda, won over Ingrida Šimonytė in a landslide victory. Even though many articles from Kremlin-aligned media outlets neutrally covered the statistics of voting and turnout of the elections, doubts about their transparency still occurred. For example, some sources claimed that even “800K voting ballots were falsified” and elections were rigged, calling them “a huge bluff” and questioning the core of a democratically led country. Arguments were backed up with general anti-government sentiments, claiming that “there is nothing new” with this government and that bigger or smaller frauds are “a crucial part of the government”.
