Main narratives:

  • General anti-government sentiments;
  • Ukraine’s victory is elusive;
  • the incompetence of the current government;
  • discrediting Ukraine and its effort to win the war.

Overview:

This week, Lithuanian media outlets known for their Kremlin-aligned views focused heavily on local news stories. The online sphere continued to buzz with discussions about the recent resignation of Social Security and Labour Minister Monika Navickienė and Seimas opposition’s initiative to establish a temporary commission of inquiry regarding Navickienė’s connections that eventually led to her resignation. Much attention was gathered around Gabrielius Landsbergis, current Minister of Foreign Affairs, harshly criticised for his prospects to become an EU Commissioner. Many articles from malign media outlets mocked Lithuanian politicians’ attempts to save Ukraine and “lead it to victory”. The same outlets also ridiculed possible “Ukraine’s admission to NATO”. They discouraged support for Ukraine, claiming that it “grows threat for Lithuania to be directly involved in the war with Russia” and that “NATO, USA and UK have already withdrawn their support” and only Lithuania is trying to prove something to the rest of the world.
