Main narratives:
- Discussion of potential war in Latvia linked to increasing youth emigration within the EU.
- Skepticism towards the Green Deal’s feasibility and concerns over the economic and social impacts of EU migration policies in Latvia.
- Discrimination claims against Russian-speaking children arising from changes in educational language policies.
- A growing sentiment that European values conflict with Latvia’s conservative principles, questioning the benefits of EU membership.
Overview:
During the examined week the present disinformation narratives were similar to those of prior weeks with the main focus being on the European Union and its negative impact as well as the discrimination of the Russian-speaking population in Latvia. The opposition parties have been consistently posting about the negative effects of the European Union by highlighting how Latvia does not share the same values in terms of acceptance of migrants or lgbtq issues. Most alarming however are the comment sections in content that is critical of Russian language policies within Latvia, as some explicitly support and believe that Russia should and will occupy Latvia. In terms of content, TikTok remains the platform that can garner the most significant engagement, similarly in prior weeks the engagement remains considerably low on Facebook and very low on Twitter.
